This slightly grumpy version of the Idaho Vandal debuted in the 1940s, about a decade before the āJoe Vandalā mascot tradition took shape in the ā50s. A yell leader named Bill Currie donned a homemade mask and created Joeās persona. It seems that when Joe Vandal got more cheerful, so did the official logo; Idaho debuted a new logo in 1967 thatās identical to this, but his expression was changed to a smile.
